I’ll say first off that I am impressed with Aldrich Potgieter’s golf swing, even if it is a Modern Golf Swing version, and although his having reached a 661 Par 5 hole in two at the Mexico Open is impressive compared to what the other pros are doing, it shouldn’t be.
He hit a 331 yard drive and then smoked his Driver off the turf another 323 yards to reach the green, and it’s the second shot that impresses me.
Anyone who watched Tiger Woods dominate golf from 1997-2008 would know that it’s a very uncontroversial take to say that he could have and should have surpassed Jack Nicklaus’ 18 major titles, and easily.
I’ve said for years that Tiger probably should have won 25 majors due to his dominance, his talent, physical gifts and dedication to his craft
I don’t know how many of you played golf before the advent of the Modern Golf Swing nonsense probably around the ’80s or so.
I myself remember beginning to take an interest in golf in the summer of ’95 (I didn’t have my first lesson until April of ’97 when TW won the Masters and the very next day, I bought a range membership that came with five half-hour lessons).

This is really getting out of hand – we’ve gone from a time where golf analysts were clueless about mechanics and so tried to explain and excuse swing flaws in a positive manner – i.e. the flying foot became “using the ground” and “vertical lift,” but we’ve reached bottom.
Now, we’ve got Bryson DeChambeau taking a swing flaw – the jumping leading foot to avoid snapping oneself in half due to not releasing the trailing foot – has turned it into swing instruction.
I haven’t posted anything recently because I’ve been at work on the “model for everyone.”
Meaning, I am working on the setup that allows one to swing with whichever arm they feel dominant, or both, for those who don’t feel they are using one arm over the other.
I have just one question to ask anyone defending the horrific footwork of the so-called “great” and “perfect” swingers at the professional level.
It’s a pretty simple question as well, but I’ll add some context with examples of other swings.
That question is, “In what other motion would these actions be considered mechanically-sound and not awfully unsound?”
Chief Cowpie, long-time denizen of WAX Golf Nation, sent me a news article regarding the recovery from a spinal stress fracture of one young Michael Thorbjornsen, an amateur player who will be heading to the PGA Tour.
I have to agree with the Chief that it is amazing this young man missed only 9 months of golf after being confined to a bed with both the back injury and surgery on an ankle, because if you see this swing…
There’s been a lot of discussion lately about the announced golf ball rollback that will decrease the distance one is able to attain.
What hasn’t been discussed, and this is my personal prediction, is that golf swing injuries will likely increase with swingers going after the ball even harder than they have been, to try to retain their current distances.
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable New Year – but I’ve just watched a Youtube video from a channel that purports to be about “Athletic Motion” in the golf swing – and all they’re doing is superimposing a modern pro swing model onto a screen and comparing it to the struggling student’s action.
At this point, I switched the video off in disgust and said aloud to no one but myself, “Golf is the ONLY sport…!!!”
