This short clip of Seve Ballesteros hitting a drive at the Masters, and I had to grab it to show you all how it used to be done, and how it should still be done!
Now, Seve was a self-taught golfer who learned how to swing hitting stones on the beach when he was a lad growing up in Spain, and he was known for his brilliant ball-striking and remarkable short game.
He did have a flaw or two in his swing which also caused him to hit some wild shots, which only made his stunning scrambling game all the more impressive – he once made birdie out of a car park in the Open Championship.
But there’s not much to say, except look at his setup down the line and it’s no surprise he was a powerful driver.
I mean, it can’t really get much better than this.
Great setup, awesome top position at the end of the back pivot, and the only thing he could have improved on the swing itself was the slightly early extension into the bottom.
If he was known to hit some wild shots with that great setup, I would put my money on his mis-timing the right arm extension and release through the bottom – too early and you’ll hook it, too late and you’re going right.
But overall, what a swing from a self-taught player who bagged 3 Open Championships and 2 Masters Green Jackets.
