Still Here – Latest Update, Video Expansion

I’m just updating the progress on the video with regards to what’s done and what remains to be done.

Frustratingly, I have had less time to work on the final production due to life’s events intruding – the best laid plans of mice and men, essentially.

I’m sure this is no surprise to long-time WAX Golf members – I have a habit of under-estimating how long the video will take to produce, and the only thing I can use in my defense is that when the videos come out, I am told that they were worth the wait.

This video, with which I’ve fallen in love (and which complicates production because of wanting to nail it), is no different.  I would rather re-do a segment with which I’m dis-satisfied than to simply shrug and say, “well, this is good enough, keep going.”

On the positive side, I have decided, since I’m already past the estimated release date, to give up on a bare-bones, short and sweet video along the lines of the last project, and to include everything I want to include, for a more comprehensive video than I had planned for, on the MCS Golf Swing using the Pivot Drill Exercises as the foundation for such.

This will likely be my last video project until next spring or summer, so I want it to serve as the swing video that will be offered for download between the release and next year.

I will spend the rest of this season and the winter season using this video as the reference for whatever subject I discuss regarding the golf swing.

In fact, the reason I’ve been so quiet of late is because I literally, having devised these pivot exercises, run out of anything to say about the golf swing with regards to research.

Meaning, the life of my blogging career until now has been of telling people what I knew at the time about a proper golf swing and of discussing my subsequent research and findings as they came.

Now, there is nothing left.  The swing is the swing, and optimal mechanics are optimal mechanics. I said even before I came up with the pivot drills that I had reached the end of the line, research-wise, and that’s probably how I was able to devise these drills.

There is no way to further simplify the swing model with the mechanics coming from the pivot drills.

Going forward, all I will be doing is discussing the swing as laid out in the video, and of course looking at swings for the purpose of critiquing them.

But as for mechanics…

If I were to teach a ten-year old, a high school student, a college or high level amateur golfer or even a pro seeking assistance today or going forward, I would begin and end with the pivot drills – even a long driver looking for optimal technique – it would be the pivot drills and going from there.

In fact, if I make any future golf swing videos, they will still feature these swing drills, and would only be improved over this coming video by having better production and video work (I’m no film-maker by any means, which is why it takes me so long to produce something I’m happy with), and by my showcasing the golf swing as I perform it myself after I’m fully fit to swing again.

There is very little pain in my left shoulder, thankfully, and by not trying to swing at all (I tried a couple of times in the summer and the pain returned because I wasn’t completely pain free), I think I’ll be back in swing shape by spring.

So, yes, I would love to make a video using brand new swings after having devised the pivot drills, but I won’t feature any new swings here until I’m fully fit and swing-ready again.

The work continues and if I can get this over the finish line in the next couple of weeks, I’ll be delighted.  I’m caught between wanting to get it done and having to get it the way I want it to be.

I’ll update as the work advances.
