Re-Writing History With Tiger Woods

When I did the podcast with Josh Karp on Tom Weiskopf and other things golf, the two of us lamented the lack of historical knowledge in today’s game.

Talking about anything in golf before the Age Of Tiger usually has the other person’s eyes glazing over, because it seems that people who watch golf now think golf only started with the Big Cat.

Again, I’m not hating on TW here – he was the reason I bought my first range membership and lesson package the Monday following his ’97 Masters win.

Another Reason For The Nicklaus Setup & Hogan Pivot

I am absolutely sick of YouTube and the golf “instruction” found therein, so let’s take a break this U.S. Open and look at something positive, golf-wise.

If you’ll come along, there is another reason for using Jack Nicklaus’ setup and Ben Hogan’s pivot action – it has to do with ball placement within the setup.

My Theory On “Where Did The Modern Swing Originate?”

A new arrival to WAX Nation posted a comment last night inquiring about the origins of the Modern Golf Swing, and a couple of other related questions.

Welcome, Scott from Arizona, and I wanted to dedicate a full posting to answer these questions instead of just responding to the comment, as I know many people don’t dive into comments when reading online posts.

The three questions were:

My First Rory McIlroy Clips – And Congrats Rors!

As you know from my posting yesterday, I was rooting for Rory McIlroy to win the Masters and complete his career Grand Slam porfolio.

Mission accomplished, and I’ll tell you why I have always rooted for Rory – he was the first pro golfer whose swing I posted on YouTube way back in 2009 when I was very early into my golf swing research.

Kyle Berkshire Nails The MCS Setup Theory

I haven’t invented anything with my work on the MCS Golf Swing models over the years – I spent the first part of my research looking only at the greatest swingers ever and compiling a list of things they did in common.

The first thing of course, was seeing that every great player in history when you talk of the absolute greatest swingers, used the Classic Golf Swing.

One Picture Reveals The Fraud Of “Vertical Lift”

Originally posted August 10th, 2024

You will hear mention on television and probably in YouTube videos, as well as reading online about it, this absolutely fraudulent claim about how golfers create “vertical lift” by jumping into the air with or snapping their leading leg and foot through impact.

It is and has always been a fraud upon the unsuspecting golfer, because the real reasons golfers are jumping off of and snatching their leading leg away through impact are either to prevent injury from the twisting force or because they are anchoring their trailing foot (which can contribute to the twisting force) and something has to give with the turning of the hips.

Mechanically-Correct Swinging – Compare Jack vs DJ Setups

I always used to say that I hadn’t invented anything when developing the MCS Classic Golf Swing models that I have presented throughout the years.

All I did was compare the setups of the greatest champions of golf from the Classic Golf Swing eras (and some Classic swingers from this modern era), from which I took setup principles to apply to what I was currently developing.

Tiger Woods – This Is The End

I haven’t posted anything recently because I’ve been at work on the “model for everyone.”

Meaning, I am working on the setup that allows one to swing with whichever arm they feel dominant, or both, for those who don’t feel they are using one arm over the other.

Tom Watson’s Words of Wisdom

tom watson topOriginally Posted Dec 12, 2015.  Re-posted in honor of Tom Watson as he announces his retirement at 69 from Champions Tour major play.

I’ve said before that golf will never be taken seriously as a “sport” (although it was for a brief period during the height of the Tiger Woods era) because it doesn’t follow the same athletic principles.

Tom Watson Would Definitely Love MCS

In fact, before anyone accuses me of stealing his swing model, of course I didn’t – I don’t really watch instructional videos from even the game’s greatest players because I felt that watching their swings was good enough.

I might have saved myself time from the 12 years of my swing research however, if I had watched certain swingers’ explanations… thanks to Terry who posted a couple of Tom Watson video clips in the comments section of another piece on the swing in response to Jim’s “Aha” moment!
