I Have Bad News, And Good News – A Necessary Decision, Not Made Lightly

It may seem ridiculous in light of the most recent posting lauding the virtues of the upcoming video, but I have made a decision regarding not only the upcoming video, but other issues that have been long simmering on the back burner.

Unfortunately, I was optimistic about production time, especially as the project has kept evolving, and I have had to make this hard but necessary decision to further delay the video release.

The reasons are several:

– I have realized that, with the pivot drills I have devised, that there is no way to further simplify or improve the MCS Golf Swing model that I’ve been working on for well over a decade now, meaning it may be the last swing video I make in a while, barring a newer, improved presentation of the material within.  The content however would be the same.

– Upon realizing this, I have had to evaluate the state of WAX Golf.  It will have to transition from what it’s been for many years, which is a blog detailing my journey through golf swing research and modeling.  That is over, and the site needs serious overhauling to reflect this.

– I have been extensively documenting and writing on this finished model for the purposes of an instructional manual, book, if you will, which has been sucking a good deal of my time from the video production, but I feel a published book on the final MCS Golf Swing model comes before a video, if this is the end of the road.

– After a site overhaul and publishing of a technical book explaining how this model is the optimal one in general terms would then come the video.

– If you wonder why I didn’t think of all of this before, I have been, and for a long time.  I knew that when I’d completed researching every possible thing regarding the swing, I would make the transition.  I just began this video project back in June working on the newly created pivot drills and only after having refined them did I realize that the swing can’t be improved upon, mechanically, with this final model.

The Video Delay Is Necessary For What I Want It To Include

Lastly, I have been looking into AI with regards to 3D modeling and have an old friend who is very versed in teaching AI assistants to perform work – if I can do anything with the assistance of such, it will make the video just that much more.  There’s a person swinging as well as they can according to the model, and then there’s an AI-generated model which may be able to perform it perfectly.

So-Called “Science Of The Golf Swing”

– Think of all of the ridiculous digital modeling and swing simulations you see on television or online with the Modern Golf Swing.  They are useless because they are working from the premise of flawed stances and mechanics.  Now, imagine the same thing with the MCS Golf Swing model.  I’ve been dreaming of such a thing for years and AI can now possibly make it happen.

So, I’m not canceling this video, I just have to move it aside before it’s been completed because I have an established order of how I was going to end my research journey.  There are also things I want in this video and for the site itself, and which I have yet to explore and experiment with, with the assistance of my AI-handy friend.

I would also love to develop an app that would allow people to view the golf swing in 3D with the computer model, as well as a feature that you have seen on other apps, the “compare your swing to the model.”  This however will not be something that delays the video and other work, but it’s something I’m looking at in the very near future.

I am doing this for the better, but not without feeling badly about how the process has led to this decision, and I offer my sincere apologies – I simply had to make a decision that I feel is the right one, if disappointing and possibly angering my loyal readers and patrons.

Changes To The Site

That brings us to the site overhaul that I have been long planning – I may begin as early as this weekend, but there is a lot of work to do regarding my social media platforms (YouTube & Instagram most specifically) and the posts on this site.

So, there will be changes to the site coming, which are sorely needed.  I have talked about changing the site to a traditional static site with a home page, but also of course retaining a blog roll, and that may happen at any time.  I don’t want to take the site offline so the changes will be made on the fly.

You may see a lot of the postings disappear, because although I don’t feel that anything I’ve said about the golf swing is glaringly wrong, the swing modeling and pivot drill work from the summer have made a good deal of what I’ve written on the swing… outdated.  At least for this website and for myself.

So a lot of work ahead, and I’ll still be working on the video with the book in the background, but we’re in a new era here at WAX Golf, and the site change and associated issues must be dealt with before I release any new material in written or video form.

It will all hopefully be done over the next few weeks to months so that new readers know what the site is about going forward – this will no longer be a “follow my swing research journey with me” blog, but a site outlining and explaining the nature of the optimal golf swing motion.

This is far from the end of something, rather the beginning of what I’ve been chasing for a long time – developing a model that is optimal in terms of mechanics for the purposes of teaching and learning such a swing motion.

The other sports are so far ahead of Modern Golf, which has regressed to the Dark Ages and where anything goes, mechanically.  Let me tell you, after a lifetime of sports participation – there is optimal technique for any motion, and there is everything else.

I will leave everything else to Modern Golf, and focus on optimal motion.  That’s how it works in all other sports, and it’s time to get golf there as well.

It’s an exciting time, and my only regret is having promised a video this summer, which went into this autumn (in the Northern Hemisphere at least), and having to push that video release into the New Year.

If you have been around long enough, you already know when I say that I’m going to end this process with a video that will make all other videos obsolete (even mine), then you know what I’m shooting for, and what I’m already working on.

I will be posting more often now, since there is much to discuss while I work on the book and video, and there will still be material to read while all of this is going on.

Apologies once more for the chaos, and I promise to make it worth the wait in the end.

DJ
