The Power Of The Pivot – You Will Likely Never Need Another Swing Video

My apologies for the time it’s taking to finish this video project, “MCS – The Power Of The Pivot” – here is the thing that’s causing the delays, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I devised the pivot drills last summer when I thought that there might be an easier way to show and teach the optimal pivot action, but something happened along the way.

I haven’t been swinging in the actual sense because of the ongoing recovery from Frozen Shoulder Syndrome – the good news on that front is that I was correct to stop swinging after a couple of sessions in the late spring, because I’m now nearly pain free – but I have been swinging my Momentus Heavy Iron to practice my pivot and swing action.

I had taken time off from doing even that because of the shoulder pain and because the pivot drills are so effective that you hardly even need to practice swinging at all if you’re doing the drills, but I returned back to swinging a few times per week with the Heavy Iron now that the pain is nearly completely gone.

What’s happened is that, even as the innovator of the MCS Golf Swing and having studied the pivot actions of Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan – throw Mike Dunaway in there as well – above all others since around 2014, the pivot drills have made me think of the pivot action in its optimal form without having to refer to anyone else’s pivot action.

How major a development is this?

Here’s how big – this pivot gif. below is taken from a video I released back in 2015 (MCS – Ultimate Leverage), and the pivot drills have actually made this motion obsolete!

That is, the pivot drills that I came up with are simply a way to illustrate and reinforce the optimal pivot action from the optimal setup or address position.

Meaning, you don’t have to study anyone’s pivot action – when you stand over the ball with the proper setup, there is only one way to move the hips and legs to perform a full pivot with the head remaining stable in its position.

Any variation and it doesn’t work as well.

Not only that, the pivot drills help to identify for oneself what the proper setup position IS.  If your head moves laterally, if it comes up or drops, then you’re either in a slightly incorrect setup or you’re not doing the pivot drill correctly.

If you’re set up properly and you do the drills correctly, there’s nothing left to do except pick up a club, get over the ball and swing.

So, even as I work on the video, I keep coming up with new insights on what you want to be doing, what this move or that move does and why, and having to go back and edit what I’ve already completed even as I move toward the end of the video itself.

This is such an effective way to learn the golf swing that I have been re-evaluating everything I’ve established as canon for the MCS Golf Swing principles and changing some things.

So, I’ll spend today re-editing a section on the pivot based upon revelations I had yesterday while practicing the pivot (and explaining out loud to no one what I’m doing, to see if it meshes with what I’m saying in the video – any difference and I have an edit waiting), and hope that everything is in there.

After years of thinking that the swing action couldn’t possibly be simpler than what I had distilled from years of research, I am discovering that the optimal pivot action is even simpler than I thought.

All it takes is my being able to translate what I’ve distilled into something others can easily understand and implement.  A tall order, but I think I’m up to it.

At the end, I am pretty sure that this swing video will be the last one anyone needs to learn and execute the optimal pivot action.

Will there be future videos?

Most probably, because even this video could likely be improved aesthetically with better video equipment, more up-to-date swings from yours truly and perhaps professional editing.

This video however is the most important one I’ve ever worked on, going back to my first video in 2010, and I want to make sure I get it absolutely right.

So, the work continues and it hopefully won’t be too much longer!
