The only thing I would add to Charley Hull’s comments on Modern Golf are that the Modern Golf Swing itself is also a reason to not watch golf on television today.
You all know my views on it – I rarely if ever watch golf on television these days, aside from the odd final round of interest, such as Rory at the Masters last April.
My only disappointment with the upcoming video will be that I couldn’t actually get out there this season to make new video clips, due to my left shoulder issues that are still plaguing me after four months.
Barring that, I am excited about this project because, although my swing model was essentially created between 2015-17 (notice I haven’t even made a swing video since 2018), the years since have allowed me to refine and conceptualize the model, so there really is no great need for new swing clips.
There is no one out there, no matter what they tell you, who swings like Ben Hogan.
There is an entire cottage industry built around “swing like Ben Hogan,” and every one of the claims is either an outright fraud or a complete misunderstanding of how the man swung.
You’ve seen lots of face-on clips of the golf swing, but not as many rear views, I would wager.
I talk a good bit about Ben Hogan’s “Perfect Pivot” action, and here is how you can identify it when you view a golf swing from the rear angle.
There are 3 things that one requires to have a similar action.
I’ve said many times that Ben Hogan had the “Perfect Pivot” action when it comes to the actual pivot mechanics, but that one shouldn’t try to copy his actual swing.
Here is why – the way Hogan swung is a way he found able to repeat, but he also had to hit balls every day to maintain his precision.

There is something to be said about having a background in diverse athletic pursuits – I played everything from footy (soccer) to baseball to hockey to basketball to competing in track & field, all between the ages of 7 to 23 before swinging a golf club for the first time at age 25.
During that time, I obviously acquired something of an instinct for self-preservation, shall we say, or avoiding injury through proper technique and the drilling of such.
I forgot to mention in yesterday’s post that John Daly used this left arm swing drill before playing every round when he was on Tour.
He wasn’t the type to warm up hitting dozens of balls with different clubs – he would get the feel of his swing for the day hitting a few wedges swinging left-arm only, and then head for the 1st tee.
I’ve written quite a bit recently about the ills of the new “Turn & Swipe” memes that have been appearing in golf swing videos, and here is the problem when you compare that nonsense to the proper mechanical action of the Classic Golf Swing.
