This Is What I Want To Give You – Relaxed & Balanced Leverage & Power Generation

I’ve of course hit longer drives than the one in this video, but when I drive balls into the executive course or over the mounds guarding the green on one of the hole, I don’t get any distance feedback other than, “Well, that one was pretty long…”

I can gauge my distances with irons pretty well when there are flags and greens at which to shoot, but the driving, I’m at a disadvantage hitting balls unless I’m in a place with a Foresight or Trackman (and I don’t trust these completely, because many times they give me distances that are well short of what I know I can do on the course or range).

With the driver at my range, I’m left with laser measuring certain mounds and, when I’m fortunate, the ball ends up on the mound slope where I can see it clearly and get an exact laser measurement as in this video.

Just have a look, if you will:

So, a 323 yard drive into crosswinds (check the target flags in the background), with the ball running through shaggy range grass and onto a mound, this drive on a level fairway running faster than range turf – probably a good 335-340 yards, and this is what I want to give you, WAX Nation.

The reason for my reaction in this video is that I was really on working on the setup and pivot action and seeing how far and straight I could drive the ball – I wasn’t trying at all to “kill it,” or to knock the cover off the ball – just working on the swing, and the drives just got longer and longer while I worked on things.

I had probably already measured the mounds from that spot on the range because the yardage of course will change depending on where you are (left, right, center) and how far back you are from the front edge of the tee deck, so I knew the mounds were well past 300 yards.

So when I saw that ball end up halfway up the slope of a particular mound, I just had to get the laser out and see exactly how far it had gone.

Results of course will vary from person to person based on athletic ability, size and age, but when you look at what I was doing just working on my setup at age 52 (this was shot in May 2022), hitting balls perhaps once a week back then at the tail end of Covid lockdowns, you know that it’s not something incredible I’m doing – it’s the mechanics!

Relaxed swing, balanced finish, the ball went a country mile – what’s not to enjoy about golf when you can generate leverage and power with the simple combination of a great setup and mechanically-sound pivot action?

Years ago, when I began to get the hang of the golf swing, I remember spending hours just hitting balls for the pleasure of it.  Those days are gone with family demands and advancing age, but it’s still a pleasure that I wish more people could experience.

I know a good many people have benefitted from my previous golf swing tutorial videos but the next one, I am determined to make as easy to follow and execute as any other I’ve ever produced.

More to come.

“Years ago, when I began to get the hang of the golf swing, I remember spending hours just hitting balls for the pleasure of it. ” No better feeling 🙂 I got into the game almost 5 years ago at age 21 (my experience of golf before that was just going to a pitch and putt with dad,and a driving range for fun with friends),and when I first got into the game I wanted to swing like Jon Rahm………The back pain was unreal…..3 months after that I just followed the advice of Tom Watson and the classics, and what do you know? I can play 18 holes, hit 100s of balls without any pain whatsover. And my game is consistent.
