How Depressing – 10 “Amazing” Swings, Not One Mechanically-Sound

Grumpy Post Warning: I had no idea when I clicked on the following YouTube video that it would so depress me.

I mean, 10 “Amazing” golf swings, there’s got to be at least a few swings that would be mechanically-sound, right?

WRONG.

I am not talking about golfing ability – you can be a great player with iffy mechanics with enough work, but the toll on the body (not to mention the lost earnings due to not maximizing your overall game by swinging properly) makes it a bad bargain however you want to look at it.

Ten swings, all showing the same hip-restricting back pivot move, some getting very pretzel-ish reaching the top, others cheating by reverse-pivoting (the hips are supposed to pivot, so shifting your hips or weight over the leading foot is not the way to do it) because you can’t turn your hips and shift weight to the trailing leg with the leading foot nailed to the ground – it’s a hot mess:

I haven’t even mentioned until now the flippy-floppy leading foot action through impact from every.single.swinger in this video.

I thought the Modern Golf Swing was supposed to make the swinger more stable.

Wasn’t that the entire raison d’etre for taking people away from the Classic method?

So, You Call This Stable???

Or This?

Has anyone noticed the disappearance, by the way, of the years-dominant player type?

Aside from Rory McIlroy, who also incidentally hasn’t won a major in going on a decade now (driving it far is nice, but being near to the worst driver in the game accuracy-wise will turn up for payment in majors), who has been able to play good golf for more than a couple of seasons in recent years before falling back or disappearing altogether?

You could almost speculate that today’s players have swings so problematic that they can only shine for a brief period when their hand-eye coordination is top-notch, everything else in their game comes together and you throw in a bit or a ton of luck (hello, Jordan Spieth) … or here come the torque-force injuries from those horrific mechanics to derail the winning run… here today, gone tomorrow, no?

I don’t speculate, so I couldn’t tell you why this has happened – but I sure have an opinion on it!

The world has gone mad – I took out the identifying area of following gif. because I’m not trying to pick on him, but this chap:

… had over 400,000 subscribers on Instagram last time I came across him (real or bought, I haven’t a clue), and he is selling his swing “secret” for $299 USD, I kid you not – I would venture that his “secret” is how to con rubes who think that this above is a proper golf swing.

It reminds me of an amateur’s imitation of this teaching guy:

… who made millions while breaking a certain player’s back who worked with him (well, he’s broken all of his swingers’ backs, but I’m referring to the Big Cat).

I don’t know what to tell you all.

That’s about it for today.

That video was crafted in cooperation with the Global Orthopedic Surgeon’s Association….But how disconnected are other pro golfers in order NOT see that the swings of Zalatoris, Day, and all others in the top 100 have lead to SUFFER DEBILITATING BACK INJURIES!!? Thoughts and prayers, Will! Ooooh, that’s tough Jason! Smoke’em if you’ve got ’em. But if you smoke’em you may get cancer!!!

It doesn’t matter how many modern pro golfers wreck themselves it seems, Peter.

People are still lining up to learn how to get wrecked in the same manner.

It’s like trying to sweep water away in a rain storm.

Oh, for the days of critical thinking! 😔
