I’ve Already Made “The” MCS Golf Swing Video – Here It Comes Again

I have been going through my MCS swing videos, most particularly the EMCS series from 2017 and 2018, and I have to say, I can’t find much that has changed in my swing theory other than my own interpretation and execution of  the mechanics.

I had actually taken the videos down from sale because I was unhappy with my own swings in the videos, but the content itself .

There are perhaps two changes I would make – I described a particular part of the the setup in the “E = MCS” video that I would change, and I have worked on the pivot action to improve it.

Other than that, there’s nothing new to say, so here’s what I’m going to do – I am going to go through the videos and re-edit a master edition from them, as well as my own new thoughts.

“Now, What Is Happening Here Is…”

It would be a colossal waste of time to re-shoot so much of what I have already explained, so I’m not going to.

I will discuss this more, but for the time being, for those who wanted an MCS Golf Swing video to help them build their golf swings from the ground up, a new video is coming out soon, within the next few weeks.

For those familiar with and who have downloaded any of the past MCS Golf Swing videos, there will of course be new material in the form of my pointing out past principles and offering new insights and clarifications to them, as well as the few minor changes.

Some of these include:

  • The difference between address and impact as demonstrated in “E = MCS” is one of the changes – I now disagree with what I showed in that video due to the next point,
  • The “vertical” aspect of the swing is a concept I’ve only blogged about and not demonstrated in a video, and that concept changed my view of the above and
  • The pivot action, while still a Classic Golf Swing pivot action based upon Ben Hogan’s action, will actually hew even closer to Hogan’s actual mechanical action, where before, the MCS pivot action was based upon Hogan but not copied as exactly and,
  • New insights on the grip based upon my study of Nicklaus’ grip and setup back in 2022, which of course would be new and not have been in any previous video.

One of the ironies here is that this swing here of mine from the “E = MCS” Video:

… with the low leading heel raise, shows a pivot action that is nearly identical to Hogan’s below:

One thing I have learned 2017 is that you don’t need a very high heel lift in your pivot like Nicklaus:

… to achieve a free and full hip and shoulder turn.

Bear in mind, there is nothing wrong with Nicklaus’ pivot, but I’ve always said that Hogan’s was superior, just as I believe Jack’s “adjusted” setup is the optimal one to pair with Hogan’s pivot action:

Look how close to it my own setup (if I had had the same grip as his) came to Nicklaus’ adjusted setup back in 2015:

I am getting on this right away – I had been hoping that my left shoulder injury (whatever I did to hurt it back in the winter – still a mystery, but I am getting older and could have done it a number of ways) would heal in time for me to shoot brand new swings, but I am past the point of patiently waiting for that.

The new video will be out as soon as I can get it out and it will be my primary focus until then, although I will continue to post on the golf swing because I love to do so.

Look for updates, but for now – game on!

More to come.

Looking forward to the new video. Hogan’s pivot and Nicklaus’s set up in theory sounds like the perfect swing.

On your point about Nicklaus’s very high heel lift,I’ve found that it requires great amount of timing and coordination. As someone who’s right side is not what it used to be due to surgery,Hogan’s is far more natural.Dunaway’s escape force being the most natural.

I agree with you – Jack’s pivot was the pivot of a strong, young man – Hogan’s was one that any age could perform.

So am I, Scott! I’ve been sitting around planning everything and waiting for the shoulder to allow me to swing but, let’s face it, I’ve got plenty of swing clips in the archives. So, the project is on and I’m on it! 🙂

Quick off-topic question: What do you think of the ten finger grip? I’ve used it since I was younger, and want to know if it would be worth changing to an overlap grip. What effects does a ten finger grip have on the swing itself?

I’ll be honest- I’ve swung with all of them and I don’t see a difference in the style of grip.

More important is the strength of the grip. Too strong and issues arise.
