I came across a video clip on Youtube – it is a home movie taken in 1956 at a golf club called Lakeview, with Sammy Snead, Porkie Oliver and Moe Norman hitting shots in an exhibition round.
I have already shown WAX Nation Moe’s swing from the 50’s where he had a conventional Classic Golf Swing action complete with the full hip and leg action with a lifting leading heel, and he’s doing the same in this clip.
First, I have already featured this clip:
… and, to be honest, this is the first time I have noticed the shocking extent of his flawed footwork post-impact.
Take note of that leading foot completely spinning on the heel post-impact – shocking.
Now, if you take a look at the clip I’ve just seen, you’ll see even more shocking footwork than just the leading foot action post-impact.
Moe is seen at 0:55 and again at 3:15 of the clip – you can follow this link to the Youtube video and, while I respect the poster having disabled the sharing option (which is why I didn’t post it here), I have taken one swing and created a gif. from it:
That footwork is, and I have been a Moe Norman fan for over 25 years, frankly shocking.
I don’t even have to describe what is going on, because it is plain and clear to see.
My opinion is that, with such an out-stretched stance from shoulders to ball, Moe was certainly able to strike the ball and send it dead straight on target, but he was struggling to get any sort of power in that swing.
The optimal swing action, remember, is vertical and not rotary, so the more you reach out to the ball in your setup, the more power will leak from the action.
I have no further comment.

I saw this as well today! Immediately thought I was looking at the grandfather of Justin Thomas or Bryson Dechambeau..!! Lol…
I wish I could un-see it, Peter. Unfortunately, the damage has been done. š
