My “E = MCS” Swing From 2017 DTL (Drv & 7i)

I have been going over the changes to my stance as shown down the line (** more on this at the end of the post), and it has been a while since I looked at any of my archived video from the “E = MCS” video released in 2017.

While I would not consider the setup shown down the line as what I want to see today, I was still surprised by how close I was to it 6 years ago – not too bad at all.

I posted recently about how my balance was off, and looking at the setup below, it was definitely closer to the optimal stance with more weight behind the feet:

The arms are still a little too extended for an optimal stance, but it I was properly balanced, for sure.

Also, I want to highlight the role of the hips & legs in powering the golf swing, which you can see clearly with my driver and 7 iron swings, being set up more along the lines of MCS Swing theory:

Whether it was the Covid-19 pandemic that kept me from the range most of 2020 and a good portion of ’21 with the lockdowns, or something else – I really got away from the model I’d already built from 2015-17.

I did have some great research results over the past couple of years however – figuring out the whole cross-dominance issue and that I was swinging left-dominant were key to my getting back to a proper setup and very likely a much better swing than what I had above.

This was the setup that allowed me to generate over 185 mph ball speed at 47 years of age with relative ease, as shown by the Swing Speed Recorder device (which uses Doppler Radar, so there is no margin of error on a round golf ball as opposed to inaccurate readings for club speed due to the toe moving faster than the sweet spot as the face closes into impact):

** So, for the last couple of weeks, I haven’t hit any balls at all – I’ve spent the time going over the stance and the change in balance, and devising a routine that will allow me to achieve that optimal setup I’ve been seeking, for all clubs from Driver to wedge.

In the grand scheme of things, I’m probably closer to that optimal setup and right-dominant swing action than I’ve ever been, so I’m not interested in more sessions where it just isn’t there for whatever reason.

Therefore, two weeks without hitting balls, three weeks, four – I’ll be back in the lab when I’m confident that I’ve got all the dominoes lined up to knock down, and when I get there, it won’t matter how long this journey has taken.

More to come.
