Josh Karp Podcast Update – Coming Soon

You’ll remember I participated in a podcast interview last October with Josh Karp, who coincidentally is also going to be taking over the Golf Smarter podcast from a retiring Fred Green – I was on the Golf Smarter podcast back in 2019.

I heard from Josh last week, who advised me that he has compiled 20 podcast episodes, one of which is the one we did for The Golfer’s Journal, and he hopes to have a date soon for the airing.

From the previous post:

Josh is a writer who has written several books, one about golf called “Straight Down The Middle.”

He’s had commercial success – his first book, “A Futile and Stupid Gesture,” was turned into a Netflix movie in 2018, and his third book, “Orson Welles’s Last Movie,” became the basis for Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville’s documentary “They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead,” which he also coincidentally co-produced.

He’s currently working on a golf podcast about the greatest golf swings in history (Tom Weiskopf’s was definitely one) and emailed me to ask if I could join him to offer my thoughts on T.W., – of course, talking golf is something I love and I readily agreed.

I was a little nervous about this podcast, because in addition to the main topic of Tom Weiskopf and his swing model, we were going to discuss other golf topics in general.

I don’t shy away from my opinions, and you all know my opinion regarding the Modern Golf Swing and the state of golf instruction today, and I advised Josh of this.

Rather than advising me to keep it at a low simmer, he was delighted that I hold “strong opinions,” as he put it, and told me to let fly with whatever I had.

So, in addition to discussing Tom Weiskopf’s life and career (he was a very volatile character – think of a John Daly-style drinker with Sergio Garcia’s temper), I went scorched-earth on Modern Golf, the swing and the instruction and I believe (it was nearly six months ago), how everyone gets Ben Hogan’s swing wrong, in both the analysis and the performance of it.

I will update everyone when the date drops for our WAX Golf episode!

I don’t know how much will end up on the cutting room floor, Peter – but if not much does, it should indeed “be a dandy” when it comes to talking golf swing! 🙂
