“How difficult should it be to learn (or to explain) a proper golf swing?”
I am refraining from giving constant updates with regards to the video project because things keep evolving in the process.
I think I’ve nailed a part of something (and because I have OCD, I keep re-visiting things), only to have a better way (I believe) to explain or show something, and revising begins anew.
In days past, I just put my head down and went through it all, and I invariably ended up hating all of my videos because I thought they could have been better.
I have had a lot of distractions since the New Year – distractions seems a negative word, so let’s say “life” – that also take me away from working on the video for days at a time, but that’s the happy price to pay for having a family and being very involved in the things that interest both one’s kids and wife.
So, this is an update to simply say that I’m happier with this video with regards to clarity than I have been with previous videos.
I stated earlier that if one can’t explain the golf swing to a ten year old, then it’s too complicated, because many of us took up sports as kids and didn’t need PhD’s teaching us how to do things, nor did we need PhD’s to understand what we were being taught.
Simplicity is the key, and aside from the delays in getting a new video out (I haven’t released a video in 8 years, so there’s the rust aspect of actually putting it together competently), I happy with the thought that I likely won’t hate this video the minute it’s out there.
Also, a video I put out in December that wasn’t as simple as one in late February isn’t the advantage one thinks it is – people watch golf swing videos for months and still can’t quite “get it” because it’s too complicated, so a simpler video at a later time puts one in the advantageous position of “getting it” much more easily.
For example, here’s something I found in a former video that shows just how ridiculously easy the pivot can be when you know how to perform it:
Just talking about it above, you see me make an easy, Ben Hogan “Perfect Pivot” action without even really thinking about it.
The single greatest problem currently, having been unable to swing because of an unrelated shoulder issue since last spring, is getting exactly the right video from other projects, and this becomes an issue when I decide to make a change somewhere – suddenly, the video clips I had selected don’t quite jibe with the new take.
Then it’s sitting down and re-watching part of all of several raw project files to find something else.
Excuses are all I’ve got right now, but it’s getting there.
I appreciate everyone’s patience and the support you’ve shown in messages to take the necessary time, but I’m impatient myself to get a video out before too much longer.
Hopefully, the next update will have an actual date of release, give or take a couple of days.
The work continues.
