Re-Started The Video – I Wasn’t Satisfied (Here’s Why)

I took a look at what I had completed with the new video, after I recovered from my flu and things settled down with the holidays, and I just wasn’t happy – I am simply a bit of a perfectionist at the worst of times.

What I found was that much of the explanation portion of the previous videos wasn’t what I want to say NOW about the golf swing, and searching through endless previous footage of the tutorials was ending with my having to “make do” with things that I thought or felt I would explain differently were I to actually shoot a new video.

I have already mentioned that the hardest part of making this new video with cobbled-together segments was deciding not on what to present, but also what to exclude – and now, I’ve accepted defeat in trying it this way.

So, I have decided to do what I did with my very first ever MCS Golf Swing video project from the summer 2010 – I did the complete video in voice-over whilst showing the still pictures and moving video from actual swings, from the setting up to the finish.

I was actually trying to avoid doing this with the current video project, but when I found myself half-shaking my head watching what I had currently patched together with previous footage, my mental health, without trying to be dramatic, began to suffer.

I knew unconsciously that I wasn’t going to allow myself release the video as is, even as I worked on it – I really want people to get the best explanation, and I was already going to have to do the Hogan “Perfect Pivot” portion in voice-over mode because I’ve never explained that pivot the way I will now.

The best way to present this material is in my own voice, the way I would present it if I actually shot a new video from scratch.

The video of the setting up and swinging, there’s nothing wrong with all of that – it’s the explanation part that was driving me around the bend trying to exclude things I wouldn’t say now, and find what I would say now.

Some of “what I would say now” simply doesn’t exist, so I will narrate the video to ensure that it is explained exactly the way I want it.  I will also try to shoot some video of some important things like the “weak-neutral” grip and how to build it.

I will apologize again for the delay but the feedback I’ve received from those waiting for it has overwhelmingly been, “you’ll finish it when you finish it, don’t rush it…”

So, that’s what I’m doing.

It will be a January release, now that I’ve thrown in the towel and will proceed the way I really should have done so, and I will be posting sparsely until then, because I really have had enough of delays and want to get this video out to those who want it.

More to come.

Hi DJ, happy new year. As a fellow perfectionist I know what you’re saying about not releasing something until you’re fully satisfied and I am prepared to wait. I imagine you will cover this is the new video but just in case & hopefully it’s not too late if you haven’t, please could you cover wrist angles (& the changes to them during the swing). Very best, Neil

Yes, there is definitely explanation on that. With the proper grip, you don’t have much to worry about with regards to wrist action, and I’ll be explaining that.
