This video has over 300K views, so I’m sure there are a lot of confused golfers out there wondering why they’re blocking their ball dead right, banana-slicing it across three different fairways or pulling it clear out of the golf course.
Let me put this out there right now – I have played baseball, and I have played golf, and I struggled for so many years trying to swing a golf club properly because I had played baseball first.
First, watch our Hall of Shamer give a great baseball swing demonstration that will completely ruin any type of golf swing you’re trying to build:
This is complete and utter BS, my friends, and I can show you two different pictures of this fellow to prove it, comparing his “baseball feel” impact position vs his actual impact position hitting a ball:
In the instructional impact position, this dude is pulling a homer off the leftfield foul post, for crying out loud – looking at his foot line, his shoulders couldn’t be any more open without him breaking his back.
When he’s actually hitting a ball, notice how his shoulders are nearly perfectly square with his foot line – the camera is to the left of the target line, so he’s hitting a ball straight down the line even though it would appear to be going left.
This fellow’s instruction does not follow what he’s doing, and I guess being an internet golf pro pays more than being a baseball batting coach, because I can’t for the life of me understand what he’s doing on a driving range.
Be careful out there if you’re following internet gurus, people.
I have actually explained this very concept myself before, so here we go again:

Never understood why they insist on doing these little tid-bits using props and exxagerations. The swing is the thing. Anyone who watches a good swing, will start to swing good, no exxagerations or props are neccessary, that’s overthinking the process.
Also, great explanation, DJ 🙂 Your free and selfless advice is far more valuable and worthwhile than those who profit.
Cheers, AK 😊
