Bryson DeChambeau’s Swing Is Looking Good (No, Really)

I got a fresh look at Bryson DeChambeau’s driver swing from the weekend when he drove a 384 yard Par 4 green, and it looks pretty good, form-wise, compared to what he’s been doing before when I’d have a look.

I don’t know if there was a stiff following breeze (there is a good breeze and I doubt it was against, but it could have been a cross-wind) or if it was significantly downhill, but 384 in any conditions is a pretty good pop!

He’s still swinging in the Classic Golf Swing style, of course – there’s no way he would be driving the distances he does with a Modern Golf Swing action, so you’ll see a very healthy leading leg action with the raised heel:

Looking very good at impact:

… you’ll see that he’s not twisting the lower back through post-impact the way he used to, instead he’s spinning around on his leading foot (and also yanking the entire foot back) to release the twisting tension:

Personally, I think it’s better to release the trailing foot than to have to do all of this stuff with the leading foot and leg, but that’s just me.

So it looks like Cobra finally got around to building a can’t-miss driver for him, no matter where he hits it on the face, but still a very athletic and powerful golf swing that kind of reminds me of this guy, without the windmill finish:

Arnold Palmer

The extended-arm setup is very interesting as well, because it’s much more of a rotary actioned swing than a vertical one, but if I were driving 384 yard greens and not wrecking my back or other body parts, I’d be hard-pressed to see a reason to change it.

Good stuff David, thanks for looking that up.

A 6 degree Krank driver, that’s Long Drive equipment. It certainly explains the distances but BDC has also really improved that swing action!
