Congrats Blake! 1st NCAA Div 1 Win & Southland Golfer Of The Month

Blake Elliott – Torrey Pines South Course

Here’s an update on Blake Elliott that I’m delighted to share with WAX Golf readers who were following his exploits back in the summer 2016.

You’ll recall we spent a couple of weeks working on his swing in California then Texas after his freshman year at McNeese State. and how his talent and athleticism just blew me away.

Driving For Distance – Remember Impact

impsI have blogged on this topic before, but I cannot stress enough the importance of having optimal impact conditions when trying to drive the ball longer.

Improving impact will get you more distance, and faster, than trying to increase club impact speed.

Once Again – Why Jack Nicklaus’ Swing Was So Great

jack nicklaus - blake elliottI’ve held Jack Nicklaus up as the greatest golfer of all time, and for more than just that he won 18 majors.

He won 18 to Tiger Woods’ 14, and throw in 19 runner-up finishes to Phil Mickelson’s 11 to date.

The most majors ever, won over a span of 25 years (a quarter century!), compared to Woods’ 11 years of major winning, the most runner-up finishes, and the 3rd most total wins on Tour.

High vs Lower Heel Impacts (Blake With Iron)

heels at impactThe irony of working with Blake Elliott of McNeese State on his swing is that we haven’t tried to do anything to increase his power and distance – it has just increased as we increased his leverage and efficiency in order to make him more consistent with his ball-striking.

I’ve said that the optimal technique for increasing accuracy and consistency will also be the model for combining it all with optimal power and swing speed.

125 MPH Club Speed? Come On…

dj imp momentusI had to relinquish my title of “Longest Driver I Know Personally,” last week down in East Texas, because I couldn’t keep up with Blake when he got going with that leveraged swing.

I’ve got him by probably 80 lbs (35 kilos), but he’s producing so much power that I’d have to start working out again to match him (as in swing work, not gym work…).

Classic Golf Swing In Division I College – Looking Good…

blake extensionSo, I really have to post a swing video clip of Blake Elliott, whom as I mentioned I consulted with on his swing a couple of weeks back on my trip to Southern California.

The question will invariably arise in the wake of Brandel Chamblee’s book on the Classic Golf Swing and how terrible the Modern Golf Swing is – “OK, so where are the classic golf swingers?”

140 Lbs & 300+ Yard Drives? Leverage…

blake top seqIt’s all about technique, not brute muscle power, if you’re looking to increase your speed and distance in your golf swing.

I told you all about Blake’s specs – 5’10” and about 140 lbs (a generous estimate, he says himself on his mass), and how he was pumping out drive after drive over 300 yards – including the show-stopper, his 330+ yard pop from the Black (Tour) tee box, uphill and into the sea breeze on Torrey Pines South course’s 12th hole (Par 4, over 500 yards).

Working With A College Level Golfer – Interesting!

received_1038889276192203As I mentioned yesterday, this trip to California was to consult with a friend and Wax Member’s son (Blake), who is a Division I college player just finishing his freshman year at MvcNeese State and who was looking for more consistency in his golf swing.

We’ve been working on his stance and mechanics, and Day 2 into it, I saw some impressive things.

I don’t get impressed much watching people hit balls. I have enjoyed watching Big Toilet play and hit balls, and I told him today that if we can Blake anywhere near his technique with regards to the swing mechanics – I can’t even predict what he’ll do with the ball at that point.
