Cameron Champ WD’s From Players With A Back Injury

File this under “it was going to happen sooner or later,” although I’m a little surprised by how quickly it has occurred – in his first season as a pro and at age 23, Cameron Champ has WD’d from the Players Championship with a back injury.

I was following his progress yesterday during the second round to see if he could improve on his 78 from Thursday when I glanced at the Leaderboard shortly after posting my piece, to see a WD beside his name.

Cameron Champ Swinging More Classic Than Modern Now!

A hearty thanks to Mr. McJohn, who found the following clip on Youtube and forwarded it to me this morning.

I was very pleased to see some changes in Cameron Champ’s setup and mechanics in the rear view of his driver swing – let’s take a look, shall we?

Hitting It As Far With Less Effort (Cameron Champ)

I wrote a post about Cameron Champ’s prodigious length last week and made the point that he could indeed get even more distance out of his swing with better impact conditions.

Cameron Champ’s Power Swing

I’m sure everyone heard the buzz about amateur Cameron Champ who played in this year’s U.S. Open, and his driving average of 337 yards.

I’ve found some video of his swing, although the one I can’t find online is the rear view of his swing that showed a separating left heel on the back swing pivot.

It could just as well have been a one-off however because from what I see in other clips I’ve found online, he doesn’t seem to do it all the time, and that is the only concern I would have for a 22 year old who’s driving it 350 yards – that he be doing it with a mechanically-sound swing action.
