Tiger Woods Returns To Torrey Pines – Winter Flu Edition

When they said this year’s flu season was going to be a bad one, they weren’t kidding.

Luckily the entire golf world is anticipating Tiger Woods’ imminent return to official PGA Tour events after a year layoff – I think making the cut would be a great achievement, to be honest – and I’ll leave this thread up for anyone wishing to comment on the day.

It’s also about 18 months since I visited Torrey Pines South Course to drive around with Blake Elliott, the McNeese State player with whom I did some swing consultation back in June and July of 2016.

I mention this because he hit a drive that day on the uphill, into-the-wind par four 12th hole that day, playing from the very back of the Black Tees (between 510-515 yards from there), that we measured at over 330 yards, leaving him a smooth 6 iron to the green and a barely-missed birdie putt:

I didn’t get the drive as I was watching him hit the tee shot with interest, but the above was the little smoothie from 179 to about 15 feet for the putt, and I shot that approach from the cart.

I get to reminisce about that day every year when the Tour makes its stop at La Jolla, and here is a pic of me while hitting a couple of irons at the South Course driving range:

As for yours truly, back to bed for me and I’ll be watching the coverage with some soup, as I can actually eat again now after a couple of rough days.

A good Farmers Insurance Open Thursday to everyone, and see again soon!
