Jerry “Big Toilet” Crowell has been a major part of how MCS theory came to be what it is today.
The big change came in late 2014, not even 18 months ago, when Jerry asked me to build him a swing model, as his years of chasing another swing theory had actually left him playing worse than ever before.
“I can’t break 70 right now,” he said to me in the summer of ’14, and I couldn’t let him continue like that, so we got to work and, while he hit balls and sent me video, I continued to look at his setup and action and suggest changes based on what I saw him doing.
Fast-forward to now, and Jerry’s 2016 schedule is filled with PGA Tour and Champions Tour qualifying events, having just missed out on qualifying for the Farmers Insurance Open that’s on your TV right now as I post this.
Believe it or not, we’ve only worked together face-to-face a grand total of twice in that time, for a combined total of 3 to 4 days of in-person work.
The rest was done online.
We’re where we are now, and Jerry has a personal post he wants to share. He thinks something big is on the way in 2016.
I agree, and here’s his post, unchanged by yours truly.
Jerry Crowell, PGA
It took the OFFSPRING (my favorite band) that long to “hit” and start making a living. I went to high school with them.
10 long years. When you hit the 10 year mark in an endeavor you should start to see the fruits of your labor. That is to say, making it your job to pay the bills, make a living. Hey some are less than that, and some stubborn people hang in there longer than 10 years (me).
When DJ Watts coined the phrase “MCS” I believe that was a seminal moment in golf history. I’m calling it now. He’s been at this for over 10 years now research wise.
It’s time to take off.
How it will I don’t know exactly, but it will.
Will a player make it on a TOUR using the MCS model and profess it?
Lord Knows, I’m Doing My Best To Be THAT Guy…
Will a TV golf personality mention MCS on the airwaves? Will MCS become the standard for teaching the golf swing going forward? Maybe all of the above.
I guess the question I am posing here is, “How long can a great business idea continue to hang in there until the masses see what the proprietor sees and it becomes mainstream?”
This is the issue with MCS today.
Fortunately for me, I get to see students come through the MCS learning phase and their eyes light up like Christmas trees. Their shots improve, their understanding of how to move improves, it all makes sense. People “get it.”
DJ & I With “Lil MCS” Andy Yu
There are no “bandaid” fixes here. It’s a complete model that you can OWN! A model based on the greats of the game before the modern swing came along.
So you see, DJ didn’t reinvent the wheel here. That’s the beauty of MCS. He is just basically explaining what has pretty much always been there, but was poorly explained. The beauty of MCS is in its simplicity.
10 years. It’s time for MCS to make a move. Your guess is as good as mine as to how it’s gonna hit, but it’s gonna hit.
I know that I am grateful to the members who have been in good standing with WAXGOLF for sometime now.
You are the reason MCS is where it is now. DJ has put his faith in this, you’ve put your faith in him….as have I.
No way MCS doesn’t go mainstream.
