A crowd favorite and Canadian Open Champion Jason Day (who’s an Aussie, not a Canuck) wins the PGA Championship in record fashion…
And Brooke Henderson from small-town Ontario, Canada, has become the 3rd youngest winner ever on the LPGA Tour.
She took the title yesterday at the Portland Classic at the age of 17 and here’s more from CTV News online:
Brooke Henderson got her breakthrough LPGA Tour victory. The Canadian teen will have to wait a little longer to become a tour member.
Henderson won the Cambia Portland Classic by eight strokes Sunday to become the third-youngest champion in LPGA Tour history at 17 years, 11 months, 6 days.
I don’t know exactly what I was doing at 17 – OK, I do, but it certainly wasn’t anything close to this:
Henderson earned $195,000 and has made $661,818 in 10 events this year. Last year, LPGA Tour Commissioner Mike Whan denied Henderson’s age petition, preventing her from playing Q-school.
Because she’s assured of finishing in the top 40 in earnings, Henderson will earn a tour card for 2016.
… and I’m sure we’re going to see much more out of her going forward.
Brooke Henderson Swings & Slings
I don’t have the time right now to really break down her swing, which is pretty powerful with a couple of quirks, but her victory couldn’t go without comment from Wax Golf, and I’ll be taking a look at her in the near future.
Congrats, and way to go, Brooke!
